Hammond Report July 25 2020 From Pandemic Quarantino Jon Hammond - daily Music & Stories from organist & accordionist Jon Hammond, today's story about the time in 1996 when I was living in Hamburg Germany and I asked Uwe Petersen (drums) if he could play a gig with me and Tony Lakatos (tenor saxophonist) in trio, first time in Jazzkeller Hofheim - so Uwe drove us all the way down to Hofheim am Taunus in his kombi (station wagon) and we had a soundcheck, and nice dinner - even a hotel! Here is the gig and the story, and big congratulations to Tony for his biography book that just came out by author Rainer Erd! I hope I can read it if an English version comes out - at least I can look at the pictures (we are not in the book) - everybody stay safe out there, mask-up in public, Jon Hammond told ya' so! Hammond Report July 24 2020 From Pandemic Quarantino Jon Hammond - daily Music and Stories from organist & accordionist Jon Hammond, today's story & music from a gig I played 3 consecutive years in Shoreline Amphitheatre At Mountain View code name "NOBB" = New Orleans by The Bay Food and Music Festival - Bill Graham Presents - just last night I had email with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Woz told me he was partners with Bill Graham on Shoreline Amphitheatre project and had his own permanent select seats of course. He loved the NOBB shows as I did! I had my own dressing room well stocked with more sandwiches, candy bars and beverages than I could possibly consume - and super cold A/C, icicles in my mustache folks!

It's TGIF, so have a beautiful weekend, and I'll be back tomorrow and every day until things clear up - remember to mask-up in public folks! Jon Hammond

Hammond Report July 21 2020 From Pandemic Quarantino Jon Hammond - daily Music and Stories from organist & accordionist Jon Hammond, today's story about 'miracle gig' returning to the Birdland Hamburg after 7 years, I got there real early when the owner Hr. Dieter Reichert opened up. When I set up my organ, to my horror my EXP-100A Expression Pedal was not working, yikes, essential component of Hammond organ for expression! I tried everything with the cable and resetting organ, nothing worked. Showtime was 21:00 (9PM) the doors open up and everybody files in - full club. Bingo! the pedal started working, and worked throughout the rest of the night. After that it never worked again - the expression pedal was dead ever after this gig - beautiful tenor playing from my greatly missed friend Lutz Büchner, with Heinz Lichius drums, Ed Harris guitar and yours truly Jon Hammond at the XB-2 Hammond organ "BBQ Lily" one of my originals.
I'll be back with another Hammond Report tomorrow folks on 22nd of July! Be careful out there, wear your masks in public everybody,

Hammond Report July 19 2020 From Pandemic Quarantino Jon Hammond - Music and Stories from organist & accordionist Jon Hammond daily episode today story taking up where I left off yesterday in Hamburg, Germany with my group performing a piece in tribute to Cannonball Adderly quintet who I had seen on Feb. 23rd of 1968 at the Winterland Auditorium in San Francisco CA, triple bill with The Who, The Vagrants with Leslie West and Cannonball Adderly's combo, we capture the Spirit here with one of my finest groups with my very dear friend Lutz Büchner on tenor, we lost Lutz way too young (47) so this is very precious - Fiete Felsch on the front line playing alto with Lutz, Michael Leuschner trumpet, Heinz Lichius drums, Joe Berger guitar and yours truly Jon Hammond at the Sk1 Hammond organ - today's segment I put together just 2 days after the very sad passing of Civil Rights Leader John Lewis, I reflect on his passing as we are 4 months in to the pandemic now and a very tough fight ahead as we fight to get back to normalcy - it is extremely important to mask-up until the virus is under control, and make sure to vote in massive numbers however it has to be done folks!

My old neighbor John Paul shot this photo - I heard someone say "Hey Jon", I looked around and John shot the photo with a compact film camera he always wore around his neck. About a week later he slid the photograph under the door of my apt. Not long after that I heard very sadly that he died of AIDS. He was a beautiful cat, very nice of him to come down to my humble band gig in front of

San Francisco California
 for a very nice mixed audience, some brought their lunches on lunch break from work and some were homeless folks sleeping on the lawn in front of City Hall. My heart goes out to all the homeless in San Francisco and all over the world! I broke out my 1965 Sherman & Clay Hammond B3 + 122 Leslie speaker for this gig - on the band

 flugelhorn & trumpet (also very sadly deceased), Harvey Wainapel tenor,

Hammond Report July 15 2020 From Pandemic Quarantino Jon Hammond - Music and Stories from organist accordionist Jon Hammond, today story about my tune we played here in Nashville, Tennessee at Summer NAMM "No X-Cess Baggage Blues", sadly Summer NAMM 2020 was canceled, but this date of July 15th 2021 will be the first day of Summer NAMM next year, so see you there folks! I wrote this tune for my friends at PIA airlines, who were always very liberal about my excess baggage. I flew on them many times internationally. On the band, Joe Berger guitar playing a special TV Jones guitar, Roland Barber trombone, Cord Martin tenor saxophone, Leslie Chuggy Carter congas & percussion, Louis Flip Winfield drums and yours truly Jon Hammond on the Sk1 Hammond Organ.

Hammond Report July 14 2020 From Pandemic Quarantino Jon Hammond - Music and Stories from organist accordionist Jon Hammond, today this story & music will blow your mind - with actual bandstand recording I made on this very special house band gig I played in 1978 when I was the Hammond B3 organist for the late great Lou Colombo, we were the house band at the Wychmere Harbor Club in 
Harwich Port, Massachusetts
 Cape Cod - private club, now it's called 
Wychmere Beach Club
 - we played all the private parties for 
Tip O'Neill
 long-time Speaker of The House, Tip was a member of the club and lived nearby. I played his Daughter Susan O'Neill's wedding, we had Secret Service all over the place - Tip always arrived with his Wife and entourage, some of the Kennedy Clan and his main man always by his side was in a wheelchair, I never found out the man's name (maybe someone out there knows?) - very clean B3 + Leslie I played there nightly - another long-time member of Wychmere Harbor Club I played for very often was Lee Berk founder of 
Berklee College of Music
, Lee was always real nice to the band, as was Tip! Enjoy this precious audio recording and story folks - very sadly / tragically Lou Colombo was killed just a few days after I went to visit him in Fort Myers FL as he was driving home from his gig at his Daughter's restaurant The Roadhouse - by a 17 year-old driver in a Jeep Wrangler - keep the Spirit folks, and be super careful and safe out there - remember to mask-up during this pandemic,
