Organ Meets Bigband in The Zeughaus Wismar - Camera: Heinz Lichius Am 30.07.2015 ist das Landesjugendjazzorchester Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (LaJazzO MV) mit seinem diesjährigen Solisten Jon Hammond in der Hansestadt Wismar zu Gast.
https://www.facebook.com/events/1625578051045838/
"The Jon Hammond Show" is a funky, swinging Jazz instrumental revue, featuring notable international soloists and reflecting the influences of Miles Davis, The Crusaders and Jimmy Smith.

MY HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Jon Hammond: Die Musikmesse. Jahr als The Jon Hammond Show -- Music, Travel and Soft News präsentiert.
Mal in Folge.
-- Interview: Detlef Kinsler

Among Wonder's works are singles such as "Superstition", "Sir Duke", "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" and "I Just Called to Say I Love You"; and albums such as Talking Book, Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life.[2] He has recorded more than thirty U.S. top ten hits and received twenty-two Grammy Awards, the most ever awarded to a male solo artist, and has sold over 100 million albums and singles, making him one of the top 60 best-selling music artists.[4] Wonder is also noted for his work as an activist for political causes, including his 1980 campaign to make Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday a holiday in the United States.[5] In 2009, Wonder was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace.[6] In 2008, Billboard magazine released a list of the Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists to celebrate the US singles chart's fiftieth anniversary, with Wonder at number five...cont. — with Stevie Wonder at NAMM Anaheim Convention Center

Jon Hammond jams at the Electro-Voice stand: AMAC 2014 http://www.electrovoice.com/pressrelease.php?id=1651 The music products industry gathered again on Queensland’s Gold Coast for professional development sessions and a two-day trade show. Almost 500 professionals, covering a wide range of Australian music industry suppliers and retailers, took part at the Australian Music Association Convention – held at the ever-popular Jupiter’s Casino.

The convention featured a number of notable key speakers and accomplished musicians to keep attendees educated as well as entertained. Amongst the key figures were Larry Morton, current NAMM Chairman and President of Hal Leonard Corporation; Jon Hammond, renowned Hammond organ player and founder of the Jon Hammond Band; Ambre Hammond (no-relation to Jon) leading Australian piano musician and Guinness record holder for receiving Associate and Licentiate Diplomas of music at the age of 11; and Lloyd Spiegel, one of Australia’s leading blues guitarists.
Bosch Communications Systems, a regular at AMAC, exhibited the latest products from our Electro-Voice and Dynacord brands, including EV’s ZLX, ELX and ETX Powered Loudspeaker families, and Dynacord’s TS Vertical Array Cabinets, the tiny but feature-packed PM 502 Powered Mixer, and the versatile AXM 12A Coaxial Powered Monitor with onboard DSP.
For the first time in EV’s history, the brand had three “best-in-class” loudspeaker families on display covering entry-level through to pro-audio markets. ZLX loudspeakers are the number one selling powered speakers in the American market and have won Best of Show at NAMM 2013. The 2000-W ETX Powered Loudspeakers have been labelled as the most advanced product in its price range and have won Best of Show at NAMM 2014. Sitting in between is the ever-popular ELX range which represents a high-quality sound system at a mid-range price.
The ETX Powered Loudspeaker display drew a lot of attention during the show, including that of Jon Hammond, one of the finest B3 players in the world. Jon reminisced about his first experience with EV speakers back in 1964, when he installed EV SRO speakers in a Fender Bandmaster cabinet.
“I have a particular fondness for EV speakers. My very first pro amplifier was a 1964 blonde Fender Bandmaster in which I installed the white EV SRO Speakers. Yes, I lugged that 2 x 12 speaker box around everywhere and it was impossible to blow it up – my whole band would plug in to it, we thought in those days because the amp was called the Bandmaster that the whole band should plug in to it, bass and all – no problem, it was loud and clear!”
After swapping a few stories Jon was curious to see how his Hammond Sk1 would sound with the ETX loudspeakers. Following a quick connection via a Dynacord PowerMate 600, Jon belted a few tunes just before the close of day one of the exhibition. He promised to come back the following day with a jazz guitarist who turned out to be Chris Connolly, a well known figure in the audio and music products industry. While setting up for the jam session Simon Ert, a jazz percussionist representing Gretsch drums on the neighbouring stand, volunteered to complete the trio. What followed was half an hour of cool jazz tunes and sweet sound.
Group photo, from left to right: Simon Ert on Gretsch Drums, Chris Connolly on Grover Jackson Guitar and the legendary “Buchanan Hammer” EV 664 Dynamic Cardioid Microphone, and Jon Hammond on Hammond Sk1, mixed using Dynacord PowerMate 600 and played through ETX Powered Loudspeakers.

Check out an excerpt of the performance on YouTube:
http://youtu.be/SPHi-VBY6zI
“I love coming to the AMAC shows, in just a few years I have forged some lasting friendships and am fortunate enough to meet some really outstanding musicians,” said Jon. “The timing was perfect to have a session like that what we did – thank you so much for accommodating us with the superb EV powered speakers. I heard from friends who were all the way across the hall that they could hear us clear as a bell. It was so much fun, that’s the kind of thing I live for and only happens in a special place and people such as the EV stand at AMAC!”
Electro-Voice speakers were also present on the Casio Sound Technology stand. Two ZLX 12” powered speakers and a ZXA1 sub gave the Casio guys all they needed to show off their DJ and keyboard skills a few times each day. Needless to say, they were very happy with the sound as well.
Bosch Communications would like to thank AMAC, Jon Hammond, Chris Connolly, Simon Ert, and all the visitors and exhibitors for making AMAC 2014 an experience to remember!

Jon Hammond visit with his piano teacher Tony Germain:
"So good to see my piano teacher main man Tony Germain 40 years later from the first day we met on Scheduling Day 1973, looking good Tony! Greatest piano and Hammond organ teacher folks!

Tony taught so many players well and created the organ department (long story!) Chairing the PIano Department, (he has a nice chair in his office and superb Steinway Grand Piano) - if you are lucky enough to be a student at Berklee and get to study with Tony Germain, then you are living under the lucky star - Tony is the Man!! Thanks for everything you showed me Tony, straightened me out big time" - Jon Hammond
*Return of the Student -

Here I am with my Piano Teacher main man Tony Germain 40 years to the day later from the first time we sat down together folks - interview coming soon, many thanks Tony! Jon Hammond

Position: Assistant Chair
Department: Piano
Tony's Steinway Grand Piano

"I think I might have been one of Berklee's first graduates with what today is called the performance major in piano. So as assistant chair, I have a vested interest in making sure we're still preparing piano, keyboard, and organ students, without being in any way style prejudiced. I also took the position to have a little bit more involvement with the curriculum—to see what I could personally add or help create."
"When I went to Berklee, Ted Pease, Phil Wilson, and Mike Rendish were my role models and my teachers. They set the standard for what I'd become and how I would teach. They were all very good to me, and I could see how much they loved it. Here at Berklee, I'm giving back to something that has given me everything. I often describe Berklee as a musical Fantasy Island. I just don't know where else I'd be happy."
"Prior to becoming assistant chair of the Piano Department, I taught pretty much everything across the board for 33 years: harmony, ear training, arranging, ensembles. I created the Harmonic Ear Training course and taught it from about 1978 until I became assistant chair. I'm equally in love with private and classroom teaching, and have done it all my adult life. I probably get more out of it than my students do. But hopefully I inspire students to further their interests in whichever style of performance they desire—it's my job to prepare them for the long haul. I still teach Survey of Piano Styles: History of Jazz Piano. I didn't want to give it up. And I didn't want to not teach entirely, because you lose touch if you're out of the classroom."

MY HOME AWAY FROM HOME
Jon Hammond: Die Musikmesse. Jahr als The Jon Hammond Show -- Music, Travel and Soft News präsentiert.
Mal in Folge.

The Fillmore https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fillmore
"The Fillmore is a historic music venue in San Francisco, California, made famous by Bill Graham. Originally named the Majestic Hall, it became the "Fillmore Auditorium"[1] in 1954 when Charles Sullivan acquired the master lease from the building owner, Harry Shiffs, and renamed it for the neighborhood rather than its original location at the intersection of Fillmore Street and Geary Boulevard. It is situated in the historical center of the Western Addition neighborhood, on the edge of the Fillmore District and Upper Fillmore (lately known as Lower Pacific Heights). From the 1930s through the '60s, before redevelopment, this location was considered the heart of the San Francisco Fillmore District.
Graham also opened a Fillmore East in New York City in March, 1968. In July, 1968, he opened an additional venue in San Francisco under the same brand. Formerly known as The Carousel Ballroom at Market Street and South Van Ness Avenue, he called this the Fillmore West.
On May 27, 28 and 29, 1966, The Velvet Underground and Nico led by Lou Reed played the Fillmore Auditorium as part of Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable avant-garde, multimedia show premiered in New York City. Their light show engineer Danny Williams, who pioneered many of today's standard practices in rock music light shows, built a light system at the Fillmore that included stroboscopes, slides and film projections onstage. Conceived by Andy Warhol, Danny Williams and using some of film maker Jonas Mekas's ideas (Mekas pioneered film projections during concerts at The Cinematheque in New York), the show also included wild, free dancing both in the crowd and onstage. At Bill Graham's request Danny Williams soon came back to the Fillmore to build more. These innovations were to become part of the Fillmore Auditorium's prestige and image and were also used at the Fillmore East and Fillmore West venues, both opened in 1968.
In the mid-1960s, the Fillmore Auditorium became the focal point for psychedelic music and counterculture in general, with such acts as The Grateful Dead, The Steve Miller Band, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Byrds, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Santana, Frank Zappa's The Mothers of Invention, The Allman Brothers Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and British acts The Who, Cream, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd all performing at the venue.[3] Besides rock, Graham also featured non-rock acts such as Lenny Bruce, Miles Davis, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Charles Lloyd, Aretha Franklin, and Otis Redding as well as poetry readings. The Grateful Dead were regulars at The Fillmore, having played a total of 51 concerts from 1965 through 1969.
Also, B.B. King's well received performances at Fillmore Auditorium served to introduce many fans to the authentic sounds that had already inspired blues-rockers including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Bob Dylan. B.B. King subsequently became a counter-cultural icon appearing at many rock festivals.[4]
The venue had a legendary ambience as well as the stellar performances, often with swirling light-show projections, strobe lights and uninhibited dancing. The cultural impact of the Fillmore was very large. It is referenced by Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in a description of the counterculture of the 1960s in the San Francisco Bay area.
After two years at the Fillmore Auditorium, because of a deteriorating neighborhood and the modest capacity of the hall, Bill Graham opened another venue in July 1968 nearby at 10 South Van Ness Avenue, at the corner of Market Street which was renamed Fillmore West in contrast with Graham's Fillmore East auditorium in the East Village in New York City.
The Fillmore reopened under Graham's management in the mid-1980s, but it was damaged and closed by the Loma Prieta earthquake of October 1989. After Graham died in a helicopter crash in 1991, those close to him decided to carry out his final wish to retrofit and reopen the original Fillmore, which required much structural work. The Fillmore reopened on April 27, 1994, with the band The Smashing Pumpkins playing an unannounced surprise show, and Primus playing the first official reopening show the following night. The Fillmore has once again become a San Francisco hot spot with frequent shows. For a standard show, the capacity of the Fillmore is 1,199 guests.
Since 2007 The Fillmore is leased and operated by Live Nation.[7]
Live Nation has recently begun a campaign to expand the Fillmore "brand" by changing the names of a number of established clubs it owns around the U.S. This includes clubs in Denver, Detroit, the Fillmore at the TLA in Philadelphia, the Fillmore at Irving Plaza in New York City, and the Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason Theatre in Miami Beach, Florida. The Fillmore Charlotte opened in June 2009.[8] A Fillmore in the Washington, D.C., suburb of Silver Spring, Maryland, broke ground in 2010 and opened in late 2011.
The Fillmore is also well known for its psychedelic concert posters by artists who in the 1960s included Wes Wilson and Rick Griffin. Copies of the night's poster are given to fans free of charge as they exit selected, sold-out shows. A chronological collection of these posters is on display in the mezzanine level of the auditorium today.
Other traditions are carried on to this day at the Fillmore in San Francisco. One is a large tub of free apples for concert goers positioned near the entrance. Another is a "greeter" who welcomes each guest as they enter with: "Welcome to the Fillmore!"

The Fillmore has once again become a San Francisco hot spot with frequent shows. For a standard show, the capacity of the Fillmore is 1,199 guests.

Billy Taylor was an American jazz pianist, composer, broadcaster and educator.

Billy was the Robert L. Jones Distinguished Professor of Music at East Carolina University in Greenville, and since 1994, he was the artistic director for jazz at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.[3][4]

hammondcast - 2. Feb, 19:19
R.I.P. Paul Kantner folks! Jon Hammond Here is my Paul Kantner story:
I first met Paul when working on volunteer Staff of Berkeley Folk Festival for Barry Olivier when they debuted in July of 1966 in Pauley Ballroom in the UC Student Union Building - this was when Signe Anderson / Signe Toly Anderson was the lead singer before Grace joined the band. Paul always burned incense on top of his amplifier in an incense burner and the smoke wafted around and 'smelled like a Jefferson Airplane concert' - the band had a big influence on me personally and for a long time I used to also burn the incense on top of my amp, I had a universal multi-plug adaptor that I traveled all over the world with and I used to stick the incense sticks in there - some of the plastic melted but that went around with me for a long time. I would run in to Paul in the strangest places over the years - one time I was in line next to him at the Marin Civic Center to pay speeding tickets - Paul was telling me he got a speeding ticket driving his Porsche on 101. I asked him if he was playing anywhere and he told me - if you really want to hear me play come to Golden Gate Park next Saturday and he had been watching my cable TV show on Viacom Channels 36 and 25, he said bring your cameras and you'll know where we are playing if you drive up Fulton Street until you hear the music. So in those days we had really heavy field equipment, Lazy Larry (Lawrence Fredson) came with me in my 1968 Buick WIldcat Sedan and we drove up Fulton St. with the window open. Finally I heard some music and I said: "Lazy, there's the music!" so we loaded out the gear and trudged through the park towards the music...closer and closer we got, we came through an opening and there was an African American guy on roller skates with a giant boom box and he was skating to the music...damn, that wasn't it! So back to the car with the heavy gear...we drove further on Fulton St., and then I heard the music! This time we were in the right place - it was the KBC Band "Kantner Balin Casady" - I filmed it for my cable access show

JON HAMMOND Show (Vintage) - now we are in our 33rd year by the way.
So that was very cool! Great show, just like the old days (then, now then is the old days to now!) - Then very often I would run in to Paul at Caffe Trieste in
North Beach San Francisco - it was our mutual morning hang. Paul came in there almost every morning to smoke cigs, read the SF Chronicle and drink strong coffee. In later years he would sit outside, even on cold mornings so he could smoke the cigs. People mostly left him alone, he would speak when spoken too but he was pretty absorbed in the morning paper. The stills on this photo collage I just created are from the KBC concert I filmed in Golden Gate Park, Paul at the Trieste typical morning appearance - and at the now defunct Yoshi's SF where he appeared on a fund raiser for CHRS / California Historical Radio Society of which I am a member.
Paul Kantner will be greatly missed! He was a huge rock icon of the San Francisco Rock scene - really the founder of the whole Folk Rock Movement - he was very humble about his large body of musical work. He once told me, "I'm not really a guitar player, I'm a writer" Rest in Peace Paul, sincerely, Jon Hammond

"The Jon Hammond Show" is a funky, swinging Jazz instrumental revue, featuring notable international soloists and reflecting the influences of Miles Davis, The Crusaders and Jimmy Smith.
