FAA: Asiana Airlines flight crash lands at San Francisco airport
William M. Welch, USA TODAY 3:48 p.m. EDT July 6, 2013
An Asiana Airlines flight from Seoul crashed on landing at San Francisco's airport Saturday, the Federal Aviation Authority confirmed.

It was not immediately known if there were casualties. Initial images from the scene showed smoke billowing from the plane and emergency exits open from the plane's fuselage.

The plane was a Boeing 777, FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford said. It crashed on runway 28L at San Francisco International Airport, he said.

Laura Brown, spokeswoman for the FAA in Washington, said Asiana Flight 214 from Seoul was attempting to land at San Francisco International Airport when it crashed.

"All we know is that a foreign airline, Asiana Airlines Flight 214 arriving from Seoul, South Korea, crashed while landing,'' she said. "That's all I've got right now.

A video clip posted to Youtube showed smoke coming from a silver-colored jet on the tarmac. Passengers could be seen jumping down the inflatable emergency slides. Images showed the the body of the plane largely intact but with severe fire damage.

The tail of the airplane was separated from the aircraft.

The crash is the first major commercial jet to crash in the United States since a November 2001 crash in New York.

The airline is based in Seoul, South Korea. Its website says its Boeing 777 can carry between 246 to 300 passengers. — at San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

KVTO-AM IS SOLD – HOW THIS EFFECTS CHRS & THE KRE PURCHASE
The Latest…

The KRE PURCHASE – The following prepared statement by the CHRS Board of Directors was presented during the CHRS General meeting, June 1st at KRE:

Jon Hammond's organ onstage for Radio Day by The Bay

KRE Radio - 601 Ashby Avenue Berkeley CA

“We have been informed that KVTO has been sold. Early indications are that the successful bidder is not inclined to sell the building to CHRS at this time. The investor toured the building with a commercial real estate agent May 28th and has implied that they intend to assess the best use of the property and the building in the coming months. This is an unexpected turn of events. CHRS is setting up a meeting with the new owner to discuss our future at 601 Ashby. We will keep you informed.”

To our valued Members, friends and supporters of The California Historical Radio Society, The Bay Area Radio Museum, The Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame and The Society Of Wireless Pioneers:

A wise man named Paul Bourbin, who saved CHRS from extinction many years ago, has told us for a long time, “you have to own it.” He is referring to the building and land that houses a museum. How correct Paul is and what a lesson we are now learning. Well we tried, and at this moment in time the chances of us owning this property are slim. This may change. For the last year we have been operating and making decisions based on the best information we have been given. The circumstances that would have allowed us to buy KRE at this time were completely out of CHRS’ control.

Are we disappointed, of course. Are we giving up on securing a permanent home for CHRS, of course NOT. It has been a privilege and a rare opportunity that not many groups have had to be headquartered in a historic building, rent free for almost 10 years. Until we have a meeting with the new owner, we do not know how much longer we will be at 601 Ashby. While we may be there for a long time, we just don’t know for sure right now. What we do know, is how important it is to protect and preserve our museum collection. These artifacts are the heart of what CHRS is about. We do know how important it is to have a secure and safe place for the Maxwell Library, the CHRS and SOWP Archives. A place where discarded radios are made to come alive again. A place to gather and exchange ideas and information. A place for W6CF to operate. A place to teach and learn about radio’s history and its’ importance in the Bay Area. And a place to celebrate the luminaries who make up the Bay Area Radio Hall Of Fame...

JOURNAL FRANKFURTAlle NachrichtenKulturMy home away from home:
on Hammond zum 27.

Jon Hammond: Die Musikmesse. Jahr als The Jon Hammond Show -- Music, Travel and Soft News präsentiert.

Mal in Folge.

Freak is a 1998 film directed by Spike Lee. The film is a live performance of John Leguizamo's one man show on Broadway of the same name. Leguizamo's show was semi-autobiographical as he would talk about many aspects of his life. In the routine, he also talks about family members such as his parents, grandparents, uncle, and his younger brother.[1] The film premiered on HBO.
The show was a commercial and critical success and garnered Leguizamo and members of the production crew several awards and nominations.[2] The making of this film prompted Lee to cast Leguizamo in the lead role of his next film the following year, Summer of Sam. Leguizamo followed this performance up with the Broadway show Sexaholix: A Love Story in 2001.

This is a real Mini Cooper! on the Schulterblatt - Jon Hammond
Mini Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini_Cooper#Mini_Cooper_and_Cooper_S:_1961.E2.80.932000

The Mini is a small economy car made by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors from 1959 until 2000. The original is considered a British icon of the 1960s.[5][6][7] Its space-saving front-wheel drive layout – allowing 80 per cent of the area of the car's floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage – influenced a generation of car makers.[8] The vehicle is in some ways considered the British equivalent of its German contemporary the Volkswagen Beetle, which enjoyed similar popularity in North America. In 1999 the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century, behind the Ford Model T.[9][10]
This distinctive two-door car was designed for BMC by Sir Alec Issigonis.[11][12] It was manufactured at the Longbridge and Cowley plants in England, the Victoria Park / Zetland British Motor Corporation (Australia) factory in Sydney, Australia, and later also in Spain (Authi), Belgium, Chile, Italy (Innocenti), Malta, Portugal, South Africa, Uruguay, Venezuela and Yugoslavia. The Mini Mark I had three major UK updates – the Mark II, the Clubman and the Mark III. Within these was a series of variations, including an estate car, a pick-up truck, a van and the Mini Moke – a jeep-like buggy. The Mini Cooper and Cooper "S" were sportier versions that were successful as rally cars, winning the Monte Carlo Rally four times from 1964 through to 1967, although in 1966 the Mini was disqualified after the finish, along with six other British entrants, which included the first four cars to finish, under a questionable ruling that the cars had used an illegal combination of headlamps and spotlights.[13]
On introduction in August 1959 the Mini was marketed under the Austin and Morris names, as the Austin Seven and Morris Mini-Minor.[14] The Austin Seven was renamed to Austin Mini in January 1962 [14] and Mini became a marque in its own right in 1969.[15][16] In 1980 it once again became the Austin Mini and in 1988 the Rover Mini.
Designated by Leonard Lord as project ADO15 (Amalgamated Drawing Office project number 15) and the product of the Morris design team, the Mini came about because of a fuel shortage caused by the 1956 Suez Crisis.[18] Petrol was once again rationed in the UK, sales of large cars slumped, and the market for German bubble cars boomed. Lord, the somewhat autocratic head of BMC, reportedly detested these cars so much that he vowed to rid the streets of them and design a 'proper miniature car'.[19] He laid down some basic design requirements: the car should be contained within a box that measured 10×4×4 feet (3.0×1.2×1.2 m); and the passenger accommodation should occupy 6 feet (1.8 m) of the 10-foot (3.0 m) length; and the engine, for reasons of cost, should be an existing unit. Issigonis, who had been working for Alvis, had been recruited back to BMC in 1955 and, with his skills in designing small cars, was a natural for the task. The team that designed the Mini was remarkably small: as well as Issigonis, there was Jack Daniels (who had worked with him on the Morris Minor), Chris Kingham (who had been with him at Alvis), two engineering students and four draughtsmen. Together, by October 1957, they had designed and built the original prototype, which was affectionately named "The Orange Box" because of its colour.[5]
The ADO15 used a conventional BMC A-Series four-cylinder, water-cooled engine,[20] but departed from tradition by mounting it transversely, with the engine-oil-lubricated, four-speed transmission in the sump, and by employing front-wheel drive. Almost all small front-wheel-drive cars developed since have used a similar configuration, except with the transmission usually separately enclosed rather than using the engine oil. The radiator was mounted at the left side of the car so that the engine-mounted fan could be retained, but with reversed pitch so that it blew air into the natural low pressure area under the front wing. This location saved vehicle length, but had the disadvantage of feeding the radiator with air that had been heated by passing over the engine. It also exposed the entire ignition system to the direct ingress of rainwater through the grille.
The suspension system, designed by Issigonis's friend Dr. Alex Moulton at Moulton Developments Limited, used compact rubber cones instead of conventional springs. This space-saving design also featured rising progressive-rate springing of the cones, and provided some natural damping, in addition to the normal dampers. Built into the subframes, the rubber cone system gave a raw and bumpy ride accentuated by the woven-webbing seats, but the rigidity of the rubber cones, together with the wheels' positioning at the corners of the car, gave the Mini go kart-like handling..

Chris Cortez and Jon Hammond

This episode of HammondCast on KYOU 1550 AM Radio features some historic recordings of Jon Hammond with radio & tv legend AL "JAZZBEAUX" COLLINS, this will blow your socks off! Al does a complete recitation of his Hipster version of "Little Red Ridinghood" accompanied by Jon on the Hammond organ live. Also radio host CHRIS CORTEZ talking about how Jon and Jazzbeaux almost blew up the transmitter for the radio station by plugging the Hammond organ directly in as a late-night experiment on the Bay Area station...wooops! All worked out ok, but the Chief Engineer and Station Manager were a little bit upset the next day.
Going back even a few more years, Al Jazzbeaux breaks Jon's recording of "Sidewinder" on the now defunct but legendary and most powerful station of New York City-WNEW 1130 AM. For Al Jazzbeaux Collins freaks, this HammondCast episode is a MUST.

This is the Gretel & Alfons on the Große Freiheit 29, 22767 Hamburg where The Beatles hung out and drank beers back in the days when they were playing long nights at The Star Club just steps away. My friend Horst Jankowiak (R.I.P.) who was the owner told me that Paul McCartney returned there in 1989 and paid up their outstanding tab for beers leftover from 1961, and gave the house a pretty good tip as well. Very sad to hear that Horst has died, he had myself and Joe Berger sign in the house guest book on the next page over from where Jimi Hendrix had signed it - I met Lee Curtis there in Gretel & Alfons and Lee walked with me and showed me the place where Star Club had burnt down - Lee Curtis (from Liverpool) played The Star Club more than any other performer - quite a legacy there folks! Jon Hammond

Bruno Koschmider zeigte ihn wegen Brandstiftung an.

Jon Hammond: Die Musikmesse. Jahr als The Jon Hammond Show -- Music, Travel and Soft News präsentiert.

Mal in Folge.

The smallest car I ever did see: Renault Twizy - Jon Hammond
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Twizy
Manufacturer Renault
Production 2012–
Assembly Valladolid, Spain
Transmission Single gear
Battery 7 kWh lithium-ion battery
Electric range 100 km (62 mi)
Length 2.32 m (91 in)
Width 1.19 m (47 in)
Height 1.46 m (57 in)
Curb weight 450 kg (992 lb)
The Renault Twizy is an electric city car (legally classified in Europe as a heavy quadricycle) produced by Renault and manufactured entirely in Valladolid, Spain.[1] The quadricycle has a maximum range of 100 km (62 mi).
The Twizy was released for sales in France in March 2012 and in the UK and several other European countries the following month.[2] The car is available with three models, starting at €6,990 up to €8,490 (in the UK: GB£6,990 to GB£7,400). The sales price does not include the batteries, which will be leased for a monthly fee that includes a replacement guarantee – in case of battery breakdown or insufficient capacity – and roadside assistance.[3][4]
The Twizy was the top-selling plug-in electric vehicle in Europe during 2012.[5] Since March 2012, a total of 9,020 units were sold through December 2012, with Germany, France and Italy as the top selling markets
The concept car was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.[7]
In May 2011, Renault announced that they would produce the Twizy, and began taking reservations.
In November 2010, Japanese carmaker Nissan announced a rebadged concept, called the New Mobility Concept, or NMC. This though is a concept and no production plans have yet been announced.
Construction and safety
The Twizy is an ultra-compact vehicle, with a length of 2.32 m (8 ft), width1.19 m (4 ft) and a height of 1.46 m (5 ft).
The vehicle's frame and body offer occupants extra protection with its deformable structure, while the outboard position of the four wheels and the lateral beams located either side of the chassis provide protection in case of a side-on impact. The safety retention systems include a driver's airbag, a four-point safety belt at the front and a three-point one at the rear.
[edit]Models
The Twizy model is electric, and it therefore is part of Renault's Zero Emissions programme.

Twizy Technic – doors are optional
[edit]Twizy Urban
[edit]Twizy Urban 45
The Twizy range starts with the Urban 45 that is priced at €6,990 in Europe with a monthly battery lease charge of €50.[8] It has a motor power of 4 kW (5 hp), a maximum speed of 45 km/h (28 mph) and can thus be driven in most European countries by drivers from 14 years old with a special driving licence (France, Italy, Spain) or with a moped licence (Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Austria).[9]
[edit]Twizy Urban 80
The Urban 80 model features a 13 kW (17 hp) electric motor and can drive up to 80 km/h (50 mph). It is priced at €7,690.
[edit]Twizy Colour and Technic
The Colour model is a colourful and 'fun' Twizy available for both the 45 and 80 trims.[citation needed]
The Technic model brings additional design elements while sharing the technical features with the Urban. It is priced at €8,490, and it is available for both the 45 and 80 trims.[citation needed]
[edit]Battery

Twizy with charging wire out.
The 6.1 kWh (22 MJ) lithium-ion battery is located underneath the front seat. Both motor variants carry the same weight of 474 kg (1,045 lb),[10] including batteries of 100 kg (220 lb). The range is homologated at 100 km (62 mi). In real conditions, Renault announces around 80 km (50 mi). In worst conditions (high speed, no eco-driving), Twizy can reach 50 km (31 mi).
The battery can be charged with an extendable spiral cable stored beneath a flap at the front of the vehicle. The integrated charger is compatible with roadside battery charging facilities as well as the standard 220 V 10 A household electrical supply. Charging an empty battery takes around three-and-a-half hours.
A planned Renault battery plant near Paris was delayed due to technical constraints. Construction will start in the second quarter of 2012 and production of batteries is expected to begin in 2014 or 2015. In the meantime Renault intends to buy batteries for its EV range from a joint venture between Nissan Motor and NEC as well as LG Chem of South Korea.[11]
Twizy is only supplied with LG Chem modules. Batteries are assembled in Renault Valladolid plant.
[edit]Sales

Since its market launch in March 2012, global sales reached 9,020 units during 2012,[6] making the Twizy the best-selling plug-in electric vehicle in Europe during that year.[5] European sales through December 2012 reached 9,015 units.[6]
In France, a total 1,551 units were registered through June 2012, including 1,212 Twizy 80s and 339 Twizy 45s, representing a market share of 89% in the heavy quadricycle segment, and a market share of 28.5% among all categories of electric vehicles sold in France during the first half of 2012, surpassing the Bollore Bluecar, the top selling highway-capable all-electric car during this time period.[12] The best-selling markets through December 2012 are Germany with 2,413 units and France with 2,232 units, followed by Italy with 1,545 units, Spain with 943, Switzerland with 555 units, and Belgium and Luxembourg with 498 units delivered.[6]
[edit]Carsharing program

Renault tested a carsharing program called Twizy Way in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France, beginning in late June 2012. During the testing phase the program operated with a fleet of 50 Renault Twizys distributed over a pilot area covering around 27 km2 (10 sq mi), and around 200 were allowed to sign up for testing.[3] Twizy Way opened the service to the general public in December 2012.

My friend Phil Lerza (in KFRC T-Shirt) Chief Engineer CBS Radio - R.I.P. Phil! - here at Radio Day by The Bay at KRE / California Historical Radio Society - Jon Hammond

*Excellent remembrance of Phil written by Gerry Cagle on his Blog "Commentaries, Musings and More":
http://www.gerrycagle.com/2012/04/17/pot-it-up/
Pot It Up!

Radio lost a great talent this week. I lost a friend.

In an industry where engineers are nameless, faceless souls who, for the most part, never “got it,” Phil Lerza was a superstar. Programmers who couldn’t tell you who their own engineer was knew all about Phil. Lerza was the superstar who perfected the KFRC sound. And what a sound. Envied by programmers across the country, many tried, but none succeeded in duplicating the sound of the Big 610. In short, Phil Lerza “Got it.”

Unless you worked at KFRC, you have no idea how perfect the radio station was. The industry measured how many hours stations were off the air during any given year. KFRC measure that time in seconds. Quite simply, KFRC was never off the air. Duplicate control rooms, backup music carts, generators, compressors and all sorts of whistles and bells were just a part of the process. In the cocoon of the control room, you were wrapped in perfection. It just didn’t get any better...*cont..

Donald's Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Bailey_(musician)
Donald "Duck" Bailey is an American jazz drummer.
He is probably best known as the drummer in the trio of jazz organist Jimmy Smith from 1956 to 1964 and also for his work with The Three Sounds on Blue Note Records.[1] Bailey also worked as a sideman for some of the most famous musicians in jazz including Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Hampton Hawes, Sonny Rollins, and Red Mitchell. He also played with John Coltrane in their early Philadelphia years. Bailey is also known as "The King of Organ Trio Drummers". In 1978, Bailey released a harmonica album called "So In Love" (Trio Records) in Japan which received rave reviews. His latest project "Blueprints of Jazz Vol.3 featuring Donald Bailey" was issued on the Talking House record label in 2009. Bailey continues to perform around the San Francisco Bay Area in the United States

The Legacy Series: TERRY HILLIARD, Bass
“I Just Want To Play.”
by Alex Walsh
Terry Hilliard says he just wants to play his bass. He doesn’t want to be a bandleader; he doesn’t want to put together projects; he just wants to play.

Terry was born in Aurora, Illinois in 1936. A lifelong musician, and a life member of Local 6, Terry made his name in the 1960s with his influential performances on the Cal Tjader “Soul Sauce” and “Soul Bird” albums.

Growing up, there was always music in his house. His mother was a piano teacher, and his father loved jazz. When Terry was two years old, his father, who worked for the Sante Fe Railroad, was transferred to the West Coast. The family settled in Berkeley

Mikell's Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikell%27s

Mikell's was a jazz club on the corner of 97th Street and Columbus Avenue, New York.
Run by Mike Mikell[1] and Pat Mikell, from 1969 to 1991 it was a regular venue for New York's top studio and session musicians, who would turn up for jam sessions with major soul, funk and jazz artists visiting the city.[2] Paul Shaffer, bandleader for CBS's Late Show with David Letterman, called Mikell's "soul heaven".[2]
Among the performers and bands associated with Mikell’s are Stuff, the alliance of studio musicians that played almost weekly at Mikell's in the 1970s.[2]
Writer James Baldwin's brother David worked as a bartender at the club, thereby attracting patronage from Baldwin as well as other authors, including Toni Morrison, Amiri Baraka and Maya Angelou.

Stephane Grappelli, French jazz violinist who co-founded the Quintette du Hot Club de France, performed at Mikell's in the mid-1970s.
The band Stuff, formed in 1974, was closely associated with Mikell's, playing there three nights a week until 1980, with jam sessions taking place with visiting soul, jazz and funk stars and singers such as Stevie Wonder and Joe Cocker.

In early 1980, the club served for rehearsals for Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers Big Band, which included Wynton Marsalis, and which would result in the live album Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers Big Band - Live at Montreux and North Sea (1980).[3] Other artists appearing at the club in the 1980s included Milt Jackson, Ray Brown, Cedar Walton and Mickey Roker (June 1983[4]), Paquito D'Rivera (January 1984[5]).
Mikell's closed in 1991.

ENCORES: Louisville Kentucky Jazz Factory - JON HAMMOND Band Jazzin By Martin Z. Kasdan Jr. Last year San Francisco-based organist Jon Hammond joined his buddy, Louisville guitarist John Bishop, for a night at the Jazz Factory. Hammond has just released Late Rent, on Ham-Berger-Friz Records, available at http://www.cityhallrecords.com/artist/HAMMOND,%20JON.htm if you can't find it locally. In an e-mail to me, Hammond described this as "a record that took me 25 years to put together. The disc opens with "Late Rent," a loping swinger and is followed by "Pocket Funk," with a slightly Latin feel. "Late Rent" is reprised in a live take at the end of the CD. Lee Morgan's funky "The Sidewinder" is the only cover tune on the album, although, as Hammond acknowledges in his liner notes, "White Onions" is "a bluesy Hammond/Finnerty composition reminiscent of `Green Onions.'" In closing, happy holidaze to one and all. You can send greetings to me at mzkjr@yahoo.com
