Website: www.jonhammondband.com Jon Hammond is one of the premier B3 PLAYERS in the world. Jon has played professionally since age 12. Beginning as a solo accordionist, he later played Hammond B3 organ in a number of important San Francisco bands. His all original group HADES opened shows for Tower of Power, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Michael Bloomfield. Eddie Money and Barry Finnerty became musical associates. Moving East he attended Berklee College of Music and played venues as diverse as Boston's "Combat Zone" in the striptease clubs during the '70's and the exclusive Wychmere Harbor Club in Cape Cod, where he was house organist and developed a lasting friendship with House Speaker Tip O'Niel. He also toured the Northeast and Canada with the successful show revue "Easy Living", and continued his appearances at nightclubs in Boston and New York. Subsequently Hammond lived and traveled in Europe, where he has an enthusiastic following.

Kiel – It seems that the invitation to have earnest. Before the concert Jon Hammond puts the reviewer baffled his business card in hand. “Hi, I’m Jon, without h. If you have the next time you’re in New York, come over!”

Chicago, Paris, Frankfurt-Bornheim, Hamburg-St.Pauli, New York.

The fingers are the singers“.

For the globetrotter only stations are places on his life. Chicago, Paris, Frankfurt-Bornheim, Hamburg-St.Pauli, New York. The many people and musicians who know the organist, are the basis on which his subsequent references, anecdotes and stories song builds. And Jon knows them all.

The concert at the Blue Angel trades under The Jon Hammond Show. Why, feel the viewers already after the first announcement. Jon Hammond is a showman, a Dampfplauderer, trained in decades as a radio and TV presenter. On top is the 55-year-old is an excellent organist at the Hammond organ. With the instrumental jazz revue he goes to the footsteps of Miles Davis, The Crusaders and Jimmy Smith, always acting under the slogan: “The fingers are the singers.”

In the game’s Jon Hammond absolutely in his music and his passion for the good old Hammond sound. At the age of 18 he purchased his first Hammond B3 and the band toured with Hades in the act for Tower of Power or Michael Bloomfield. Only in 1991, he is a digital and easier to XB-2. A veritable connoisseur: he weighs his head constantly from one side to another, winding up as Stevie Wonder on his fingers. The left hand is largely replaced the role a bass player, in addition to the various sounds, which he manually adjusted.

Not to replace the musicians, the show Jon Hammond on the scene complete. Heinz Lichius drums as in each of its formations to the very best, the 26-year-old Sebastian Gille perplexed Gabriel instead of Coburger on saxophone with subtle, though powerful solos and guitarist Joe Berger is like a string Hasardeur. Even if he is not the former Who guitarist, as it is the Organizer’s Info weismachen wants – at least he played with Who bassist John Entwistle and arranged for his band in the studio mix.

A main feature of the instrumental songs: catchy melody and strong grooves. Jon Hammond handles the sad encounter with a girl in Paris or the Czech King Salsa as well as rooting the night in the hotel garbage. In addition to jazz elements is his style deeply rooted in rock, funk, East Bay Grease, Bossa Nova, Soul and Rhythm & Blues. Sometimes the sound shallow pieces, most notably Duke Ellington
Satin Doll or
Moanin ‘by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, as on a cruise ship, but the early protagonists break the rudder around, they joke with Shuffle and Radio welding on the other hand hold.

Annual Musikmesse Warm Up Party in Jazzkeller Frankfurt hosted by Jon Hammond Band will be

celebrating 25 consecutive years performing in the International Musikmesse which is the biggest

event in the music lights and sound Industry.

Jon Hammond is very proud to announce the line up

and happy to return again to the world famous stage of Jazzkeller Frankfurt, the oldest jazz

club in all of Germany. Joe Berger guitar and Jon Hammond organ are both from USA, known

affectionately to their music friends as Ham-Berger (we're on a roll! Jon and Joe often say)

long-time associates and a fixture at many trade shows, as seen on the long-running NYC based

TV show "The Jon Hammond Show" now in 27th year.

Tony Lakatos the great Hungarian tenor sax star from Budapest, from the famous Lakatos Family of

Hungarian Gypsy music tradition going back generations. Tony is a lifetime member of the HR

Hessischer Rundfunk Radio Big Band and currently playing with Herbie Hancock. Tony is an artist

endorsee for P. Mauriat saxophones. Jon Hammond is extremely happy Tony will be rejoining the

band in Jazzkeller, along with another long-time musical associate, Giovanni Gulino drums from

Sicily Italy. Giovanni has been the house drummer for many years in Jazzkeller Frankfurt and

Jazz Kneipe, he also comes from a family of musicians, his brother Sandro is an outstanding

bass player. 20 years ago Jon was introduced to Tony and Giovanni by Regina Snilovic the owner

of the Jazz Kneipe, which is now closed, but formerly presented live music 7 nights a week.

Jon Hammond, Giovanni Gulino, Tony Lakatos 20 years ago in Jazz Kneipe Frankfurt

Tony, Giovanni and Jon were often the house band, by Jon played 207 gigs there with the boys,

often joined by other well known musicians in the after hours, including:

Attila Cornelius Zoller (June 13, 1927 – January 25, 1998) Jazz guitarist from Visegrád, Hungary

R.I.P., Stephen Ferrone drummer of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, AWB and Eric Clapton. The

music went on there often until 5AM in the morning, it was a meeting point for musicians

and new arrivals to the Frankfurt scene as well as old-timers.

Jazzkeller Frankfurt is a very special location and atmosphere with a very important history, a

favorite of musicians and jazz fans going back to Louis Armstrong, Art Blakey and The Jazz

Messengers, Chet Baker and many others.

Jon Hammond calls Jazzkeller his "Good Luck Room" and Frankfurt his "Good Luck City". This is

the place where Jon had his very first Frankfurt gigs, the 3rd of a series was a packed full

house after Jon Hammond appeared on the local TV program "Hessen Report" on RTL Plus Television.

Beatrix Rief moderator host of Hessen Report recommended Jon Hammond's show at the Jazzkeller

and ever since a tradition has been established, Jon Hammond comes back to play there very year

and will until the very end.

The historic appearance on Hessen Report:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cncN3PvqcQw

First lucky break for Jon Hammond in Frankfurt Germany appearing on Hessen Report RTL TV with big plug from moderator Beatrix Rief for upcoming shows at Jazzkeller. It was shot on a cold morning in Dec. 1991 in Venety's on Sandweg in Frankfurt. Special thanks: Beatrix Rief, Tino Pavlis, Frank Poehl http://www.HammondCast.com

From the time The Jon Hammond Band hits the stage of Jazzkeller Frankfurt for sound check

a good time will be had by all! And the very next morning we'll see you on the Musikmesse  bright and

early for day 1 of the 2011 Musikmesse kicking off on 6th April running through the 9th.

Presentation in Melbourne Australia Ringwood Victoria at Bernies Music Land. Jon brought back a classic Akubra Australian Hat and recorded an album with drummer Michael
Jordan LIVE AT BERNIES http://www.amazon.com/Live-At-Bernies-Jon-Hammond/dp/B003K7TMWM and a segment of Jon Hammond Band live in Jazzkeller Frankfurt with introduction by club owner Eugen Hahn featuring Jon's lineup of

Live At Bernies
Jon Hammond (Artist) | Format: Audio CD

Wonderful live recording of Hammond Organ with drums. This classic organ club format was at its zenith in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Live at Bernies captures this unique feel and sound, with the internationally recognized hands of Jon Hammond and Michael Jordan providing expert renditions of many classic favorites. This crystal clear live recording sounds like you have an Organ Lounge in your living room! The performances are excellent and Jon displays his great experience and demonstrates the capabilities of the Digital New B3. The natural live feel is very refreshing.

*Note: A sad note about the passing of Jimmy Smith, Feb. 9 2005 in Scottsdale AZ just one month after receiving NEA Jazz Masters Award. Jon Hammond said about Jimmy Smith: "He played more organ with one hand tied behind his back than many others!" His left side had been compromised for some time but he still out-grooved with right hand. "Meet The Incredible Sk1 Hammond with Michael Falkenstein and Jon Hammond"
First look at this exciting new keyboard product weighing in at 7 kilos, just over 15 lbs., it sounds like a real Hammond B3 organ with Leslie, or a full size grand piano, any type of famous vintage electric piano or synthesizer. This keyboard does it all and with original Hammond drawbars and it's feather light. Sk1 has a built in USB flash drive input, the keys are 'bullet proof' waterfall style keys that can hold up to extreme pressure of rockin' rock musicians, swinging jazz musicians and can even sound like a huge pipe organ. This film will blow your mind.

Biografisches in Kürze

Jahrgang 1968, aufgewachsen in Bremen. Lutz Büchner lebt heute in Hamburg.

Was faszinierte Sie so am Jazz?

AUDIO I

Audiobeitrag starten (00:48 min)

Jack Bauers schrieb für „It’s all about Jazz”:
This charming two–disc set by Germany’s world–class NDR Bigband was recorded in 1998, (...) the NDR ensemble steps aside on five numbers for a quartet („Body and Soul”) or quintet with Lutz Büchner sitting in for Benny, Wolfgang Schlüter for Hampton, Charly Antolini for Krupa and Simon Nabatov for Stacy or Wilson with bassist Lucas Lindholm rounding out the group. The superb tenor soloist on „Body and Soul” is Danny Moss, while Büchner is equally dazzling on „Memories of You,” everyone sparkles on the fleet–footed „Dizzy Spells” and Antolini dons his most persuasive Krupa wardrobe on the classic „Sing, Sing, Sing” (on which Büchner, Moss, Nabatov and trumpeter Ingolf Burkhardt toss in handsome solos).
Yes, this is Swing Era music, but it’s played about as well as it can be by one of the world’s leading contemporary Jazz ensembles. In other words, if you find big bands appealing, you’ll warm quickly to this one.

THE NDR SESSIONS PROJEKT

HAMMOND, JON
HAM-BERGER-FRIZ RECORDS

This new release from Jon Hammond marks his move into mainstream jazz. Utilizing the famous NDR Orchestra and Studios in Hamburg, Germany, Jon has crafted an excellent organ jazz record utilizing drums, sax and trombone. Outstanding support from saxophone soloist Lutz Buchner adds a lyrical modern jazz sound to the recordings. Excellent drumming by Heinz Lichius and the soulful sound of Joe Gallardo on trombone round out the disc. Great classic tunes are covered, along with some originals, including "My One and Only Love," "Skylark," "Besame Mucho," "Blues In The Night" and "No X-Cess Baggage Blues."

"This was, without exaggeration, one of the best acoustics-related technical decisions for the NDR I have been involved in during the past few years," comments NDR sound engineer Michael Plötz. "The digital audio world now enjoys incomparably good sound thanks to the use of the AX 24 in the production chain of this studio. The combination of a DAD AX24 and the SSL Duality console places us in a new 'analog/digital world'"

Biografisches in Kürze

Jahrgang 1968, aufgewachsen in Bremen. Lutz Büchner lebt heute in Hamburg.

Was faszinierte Sie so am Jazz?

JON HAMMOND Jazz Man

Jon Hammond's story is one of survival. Survival as a jazz musician, survival as a Manhattanite. The organist-accordionist has survived because of perseverance, love of his art, tremendous humor, and gratitude. His new independently produced and marketed CD, HAMMOND'S BOLERO, which contains only music written by Hammond, is both a statement and a tribute. As his CD notes begin, "This record marks a new beginning for me, and I would like to dedicate it to all those who, like myself, are striking out on their own and going it alone. Don't be afraid to follow your dreams. I did and now this record is for you!" Following his dream at times has not been easy.

Take his living situation. Hammond is fairly new to Manhattan Plaza---a resident for just two years---and like everything else involving this multitalented man, there's an interesting story attached. "I'm living under a lucky star after years of putting up with all kinds of adverse conditions. Manhattan Plaza has been a great, great help for me." Living in the Clinton area, Hammond survived six ceiling collapses in his apartment and was finally driven out by sick building syndrome, i.e. poisonous mold in the walls. He realized it only after watching an epsode of 60 MINUTES. Did he sue? "No," he says. "Put it this way---the title song for my TV show is called 'Late Rent.' I used to pay my landlord partial payments, etc. so I never sued."

As a further testament to his Manhattan survival, Hammond is a nineteen-year-veteran of cable access with his own television show, aptly titled THE JON HAMMOND SHOW. Manhattan Plaza residents Todd Anderson (tenor sax) and Bill Warfield (trumpet) have been featured as part of the band. the show airs on Monday at 9:30 p.m. on channels 56 and 108 and various times on other channels. For more information, viewers can check Hammond's website, http://community.webtv.net/laterent/JONHAMMOND

Jon Hammond Band

http://www.jonhammondband.com

But before the glamour of Manhattan, CD's, opening for Bonnie Raitt, and some other high-class gigs, Hammond paid his dues. Attending the Berklee college of Music in Boston in 1973, he earned money on the wild side. "I used to play in these Mafia striptease clubs seven nights a week. Boy, that was the end of an era. I was working for the Venus brothers, notorious gangsters, and I was the house organist at the infamous 2 O'Clock Lounge, the Mousetrap Lounge, The Hungry I---all these clubs that were in what was known as the Combat Zone in Boston."

And how did he get to New York? "Well, I knew a stripper named Didi Bangbang, a really nice girl. She knew I had a van. When you have a van, you get some interesting calls. She had a show at this burlesque club in New York so she said, 'Drive me and I'll introduce you to New York.' This was in 1975. She had wild props, like a plexiglass round platform with disco lights inside of it. We loaded everything in this army green van and drove to New York."

From New York, Hammond went on the road with a show band called Easy Living "It was one of the top show bands---this was before disco---and you'd get on the different circuits. We were in the $10,000-a-week bracket."

Just one problem. "I get the call for a really great gig, but it's always at the end. When you see me show up, it's a doomsday situation. The band toured for six months. We were in Toronto working at the Four Seasons Inn on the Park, one of the nicest hotels I've ever been in in my life. I was living like a king. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Well, they had installed a DJ booth---the first place we ever played with one installed. He played on our breaks. They would cross-fade, meaning we would re-enter playing the music he had been playing. But I could see the handwriting on the wall. The disco thing had not really come in and taken over yet---the very first tune that was a big disco hit was "The Hustle." "We had to do it with the band. That tune was like the death knell. Disco came in and the bands went out."

A musician's life involves a lot of travel, and that Hammond has done---back and forth throughout North America, from New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Cape Cod, and Toronto. "Around 1977, I ended up in Boston again. There I heard through the grapevine that Lou Colombo, the trumpet player, was looking for an organist for a private harbor club in Harwichport, Massachussets. Another great job. One of the members was Tip O'Neil, who became Speaker of the House, and I played all of his private parties. He was always very nice. That lasted for two years and then they reduced the nights."

In September 1981, Hammond fulfilled his dream of a lifetime---traveling to Paris on the Concorde. "I lived it out exactly as I saw it in my dream." Hammond recalls. "I had a haircut. I bought a dark blue suit. I bought a case that I still travel with today. Every man was wearing the same suit I was. As soon as the plane took off, I realized I was leaving the continent for the first time and I got very emotional."

Hammond stayed in Paris "as long as I could. I wrote music there. It was more than I hoped it would be. I swore I'd come back to live. I ended up in Europe for six years, actually in Frankfurt, going back and forth to the States, from 1991 to 1997." For being a consultant on the design, Suzuki gave him an XB-2 Hammond organ, which was a big help to him.

A career change occurred when he and his band were hired to play at the Jazzkeller in Frankfurt. "I went on a TV show to promote it," he recalls, "Later on, I took a cab to the club and there was a huge commotion outside. I thought it was due to a group playing an earlier set. I said to the cab driver, 'Gee, I hope they finish soon.' the driver said, "They're waiting for you.;" Though Hammond did very well in Europe, including a concert on Radio France, a trade war soon found american jazz musicians being cut out of European work. "I came home on Pakistan Airlines" the former Concorde passenger remembers. Hammond is used to the roller coaster ride of the musician---one day on tour with Percy Sledge, the next day coming home from France with $50.

Hammond recently returned from successful concerts in Germany at the International Trade show "Musikmesse" for the seventeenth consecutive year with his co-producer Joe Berger, of Ham-Berger-Friz Records, the producer of the CD. You got it. Hamburger/fries. Hammond's CD is currently getting radio play in Germany and National Public Radio stations in the U.S. Several manhattan Plaza residents are involved in the CD. On April 28, he had a launch party at Le Bar Bat.

Though only occasionally veering outside of the music world, Hammond did something unusual in 2001. "My mother called me and said, 'Jon, they're hiring at United Airlines.' I thought, what can it hurt to please my mother, I"ll apply. I did get an offer but I was unable to take it because it involved transporting luggage, and I couldn't do it because of my bad back. However, they then found out that I speak German. I was offered a better job in International. Now guess when I was supposed to start training? October 2001. Well, you know what happened to the airlines after 9/11, and you know what I said about getting a gig at the death knell. So this told me one thing, I'm supposed to be a musician." He's right.

Miracle on 42nd Street Trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-0A56IC6uM

MIRACLE ON 42ND STREET is a feature length documentary about the unique apartment complex called Manhattan Plaza located in Manhattan's historic theatre district, a neighborhood also known as Hell's Kitchen. Located on the block between 42nd and 43rd Streets, it is often called the "Miracle on 42nd Street" due to the near-miraculous effect the complex has had on the once-blighted neighborhood and on the lives of its residents. Seventy percent of the occupants work in the performing arts and thirty percent are Hell's Kitchen residents who are elderly, disabled or have been relocated from substandard housing. The film tells the story of how this innovative affordable housing experiment came to be, the artists it has nurtured, the close community its residents and management have created and the positive impact it has had on the economy of Manhattan's West Side. The filmmakers, several of whom are current and former residents, are passionate about sharing the story of Manhattan Plaza with the world. It is a unique model of what can be achieved by bringing together over 3,500 people from differing cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds. The film is intended for festival release and to air on television. We hope that by making this film, the example of Manhattan Plaza will inspire new ways of thinking about affordable housing in cities around the globe. We believe that Manhattan Plaza's success was brought about by the creative community it housed, people whose dreams and goals might not have been realized had it not been for the opportunity of living in Manhattan Plaza. People like Broadway composer Alan Menken, Terrence Howard, Alicia Keys, Tennessee Williams, Marin Alsop (groundbreaking female orchestra conductor), Dexter Gordon, Larry David, Charles Mingus, Mickey Rourke, Andrea McArdle (Broadway's first Annie) and Sandy, her dog. Samuel L. Jackson worked there as a security guard in his first and only non-acting job.

Meet The Incredible Sk1 Hammond with Michael Falkenstein and Jon Hammond

Filmed in Hammond-Showroom Karlstrasse 38
D-89129 Langenau Germany on April 19th 2011

Chico Hamilton (born Foreststorn Hamilton, September 20, 1921), is an American jazz drummer and bandleader.

Hamilton was born in Los Angeles, California. He had a fast-track musical education in a band with Charles Mingus, Illinois Jacquet, Ernie Royal, Dexter Gordon, Buddy Collette and Jack Kelso. Engagements with Lionel Hampton, Slim & Slam, T-Bone Walker, Lester Young, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Charlie Barnet, Billy Eckstine, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Billie Holiday, Gerry Mulligan and six years with Lena Horne established him as a jazz drummer,[1] and he struck out on his own as a bandleader in 1955.
Hamilton appeared in the March Milastaire number in the film You'll Never Get Rich (1941) as part of the backing group supporting Fred Astaire, and performed on the soundtrack of the Bing Crosby/Bob Hope film Road to Bali.
He recorded his first album as leader in 1955 with George Duvivier (double-bass) and Howard Roberts (jazz guitar) for Pacific Jazz. In same year Hamilton formed an unusual quintet in L.A. featuring cello, flute, guitar, bass and drums.[2] The quintet has been described as one of the last important West Coast Jazz bands.[1] The original personnel included flutist Buddy Collette, guitarist Jim Hall, cellist Fred Katz and bassist Jim Aton, who was later replaced by Carson Smith. Hamilton continued to tour using different personnel, from 1957 to 1960. The group including flutist Paul Horn and John Pisano was featured in the film Sweet Smell of Success in 1957. The same group, this time including Nate Gershman and Eric Dolphy appeared in the film Jazz on a Summer's Day in 1960. He marked his first recordings with Eric Dolphy on With Strings Attached, Gongs East, The Three Faces of Chico, and That Hamilton Man.

In March 2011, with his 90th birthday six months off, Hamilton trekked out of his New York City penthouse apartment to helm a marathon recording session resulting in 28 new tracks with his Euphoria group. No one woodsheds like a jazz drummer, and coming off a health setback during the Summer of 2010, Hamilton and his Euphoria group began sheding at weekly rehearsals at Hamilton’s Penthouse A. These weekly rehearsals played an important part in Hamilton’s rehabilitation, facilitated Hamilton and his group becoming very tight with each other and exploring places musically they had not previously gone together, and brought together a wealth of new original material, offered up in three courses, each of which is a different viewpoint of Hamilton’s Revelation.
